Im looking at buying some racing seats for my lancer when i start to customize it later this summer. Im not sure if i should get the harness' with the seats or not. I mean would it look stupid with out them? also anybody know of street legal harness?
A I've actually talked to some one from the CHP, they said as long as the harness are "Professionally installed" they are all legal. regardless I had a buddy club seat, in my miata, and my ek civic, and now im waiting to put it in my del sol, and used stock seat belts with both of the cars it was in. It works fine, but really harnesses are the better choice. Edit. Honestly, I love bucket seats, they EXTREMELY comfortable, they have to be, think about how much time a professional driver spends in them. Theres NO WAY they can be uncomfortable and have a driver do good. The driver will focus WAY too much on moving to try and be comfortable than actually driving. My buddy club seat is great, it holds me very well and even helped my back after i threw it out working on the miata.
I have racing seats in my car and without taking the back seat our is there any way to attach them to the back of the seat or some how while leaving the back seat in the car?
A Hoop roll over bars should do the trick.
Racing Seat Belts
Racing Seat Belts are commonly called just a seat belt or a seat belt harness, although they all mean the same thing when it comes to racing seats. Racing seat belts are specifically designed to secure the driver of the race car into the seat. In case of a collision or sudden stop, racing seat belts provide protection against harmful injuries. Primarily designed to stop the driver from injuries that may occur by hitting a hard interior surface of the vehicle and to prevent the occupant from being ejected from the vehicle. Racing seat belts work by absorbing the energy discharged during impact with another vehicle or obsticle.
Five point harnesses are generally used as racing seat belts, where the harness is fastened to the frame or sub frame of the vehicle, instead of the actual seat. The six point racing seat belt became popular after the death of Dale Earnhardt on the racetrack. He was wearing a five point seat belt and many though the weak link (and the cause of his death) was that the racing seat belt was attached to his seat, not the frame.

im just wondering if racing ( 5 point ) seat belts are legal in Canada?
A Not for Street Use - they don't meet D.O.T./M.O.T. standards even though they are safer. And their latches do not meet standards for passenger cars either. SORRY. If you look in my 1958 Jaguar that I had modified for seat belts you will find two set of belts for the driver and passenger. There is a set of lap belts to satisfy the safety gurus and a set of 5 racing belts for rallying.
i want to install some in my new car but I dont want to cut anything...or take bolts in and out..and not to good with installing things and cars
A super glue ought to do the job.

i want to buy reclinable race seats for my mark IV supra but i dont want to use the harnesses can i just use the regular seat belts or safety belts. if you know any cheaper seat companies other than sparco let me know. i would like them to recline.
A you can use the original but it wouldnt look as good... the 4 or 5 point harness ... looks pretty tight
Like, in the case of a crash driving from point A to point B. Are you safer with the good-ole seat belt. (sideways V shaped one) Or is it safer to have a 4 or 5 point harness? (Like a TAKATA and such) Just wondering, because normal seatbelts have a lot of play, which according to physics, it helps you survive because it increases the time of impact. Where a harness does have very limited play, so in case of a crash, you won't move at all, which in my own thinking it seems like it may cause broken shoulders. Idk if im making sence, i need to like tape it. Second question. I just absolutely love the way Sparco steering wheels look. But of course, they do not have airbags. Is it really worth it to get one? My friend is parting out his 350Z and he can sell me his Sparco steering wheel for just $20 (i think he paid like 200 for it) But again, im in Chicago, it snows a lot here, and ppl drive like j@ck@$$es. I do not feel like dying. Other reason why i like racing steering wheels is because you can take them out the car and it won't get stolen. (as easily) I also got the "type r" bucket seats, with the holes for the harnesses. Well, thanks.
A A four or five point harness would be safer in a crash, if it can be installed properly. The belts are wider, so they would distribute the forces over a larger area of your body. To install the shoulder harness and (in a 5-point belt) the anti-submarine belt, it needs to be attached to the frame so that the bolts won't pull through in a crash. If you just drill a hole in the floor pan and bolt it up there, they'll probably pull out in a crash, and not do you any good. The lap belts can probably go in the same holes that the old bolts used, so they should be OK. You'd need to check with someone familiar with your type of car to see if there is such a point. One other thing to remember is that if you have a four or five point belt, it limits how much you can move. That's good in an accident, but bad if you want to change the radio, or turn and look over your shoulder to back up or change lanes. The play that you feel in a normal seat belt actually goes away in a crash. The reels have "inertial tensioners" in them. In a crash, as the car slows down, these tensioners lock, and keep the belt from having any play in it.

i have a pair of universal racing seats coming today and i need to mount them to the stock oem brackets so i can retain my normal seat belt. cant do harnesses because its illegal in my area. please help me.
A Buddy Club seat rails retain the use of the stock seat belt. When my friend had a Buddy Club seat, on stock seat rails, the seat would flex ALOT. Where as on my civic, I have a buddy club seat and rails, and theres no flex in it. Don't do things cheaply.
i am planning on buying racing seats but the ones i am getting come with the slider but not seat brackets, can i use the stock ones on the stock seat for the racing seats?
A I personally would get an engineers report to see what was more safe & legal. It is your life.

Does anyone know if they make or sell fox racing or other brands similar to that seat covers for a car? Thanks
A Fox would be pretty expensive! The natives where I live make fox mittens and hats, which run a good $250 each. I can only imagine was a seat cover would cost!
Someone had put it in my car before i bought it and it's ripped and faded, and i can't afford to get a new seat, so i was wandering if they made seat cover for these, big akward seats. it is very comfortable though.
A I highly doubt it, the seat covers you buy at the store are standard sizes for most basic seats. Race car seats are completely different in size. However, if anything, try something like would fit on a bigger car with big bucket seats. If it does not fit, just return them.

When Inspector Winters slammed on the brakes, Dr. Haledjian would have been pitched through the windshield but for his seat belt. The reason for the inspector’s sudden stop was horribly evident. A red sports car had come racing around the hairpin turn on the mountain road ahead. Out of control, the car crashed through the guardrail. The impact didn’t stop the car, but it flung the driver straight up. He seemed to hang in the air a moment before plunging out of sight. Haledjian and the inspector scrambled down the two hundred-foot precipice. The driver’s body was a shattered mass of broken bones and blood. About one hundred feet beyond, the sports car lay on its side, a total wreck. “Strange,” muttered the inspector, pointing to the seat belt, obviously unused, which lay in the fresh blood that covered the driver’s bucket seat. “I doubt that even a seat belt could have saved his life,” said Haledjian. “I’d better telephone the state police,” said the Inspector. “It looks like one more traffic fatality for the year. Do you think he fell asleep at the wheel?” “No,” said Haledjian. “He was murdered.” Why murder?
A This is an old one...did you find the clue? If the body was thrown from the car, there would be no blood on the seat! 10PTS PLEASE
