Like, in the case of a crash driving from point A to point B. Are you safer with the good-ole seat belt. (sideways V shaped one) Or is it safer to have a 4 or 5 point harness? (Like a TAKATA and such) Just wondering, because normal seatbelts have a lot of play, which according to physics, it helps you survive because it increases the time of impact. Where a harness does have very limited play, so in case of a crash, you won't move at all, which in my own thinking it seems like it may cause broken shoulders. Idk if im making sence, i need to like tape it. Second question. I just absolutely love the way Sparco steering wheels look. But of course, they do not have airbags. Is it really worth it to get one? My friend is parting out his 350Z and he can sell me his Sparco steering wheel for just $20 (i think he paid like 200 for it) But again, im in Chicago, it snows a lot here, and ppl drive like j@ck@$$es. I do not feel like dying. Other reason why i like racing steering wheels is because you can take them out the car and it won't get stolen. (as easily) I also got the "type r" bucket seats, with the holes for the harnesses. Well, thanks.
A A four or five point harness would be safer in a crash, if it can be installed properly. The belts are wider, so they would distribute the forces over a larger area of your body. To install the shoulder harness and (in a 5-point belt) the anti-submarine belt, it needs to be attached to the frame so that the bolts won't pull through in a crash. If you just drill a hole in the floor pan and bolt it up there, they'll probably pull out in a crash, and not do you any good. The lap belts can probably go in the same holes that the old bolts used, so they should be OK. You'd need to check with someone familiar with your type of car to see if there is such a point. One other thing to remember is that if you have a four or five point belt, it limits how much you can move. That's good in an accident, but bad if you want to change the radio, or turn and look over your shoulder to back up or change lanes. The play that you feel in a normal seat belt actually goes away in a crash. The reels have "inertial tensioners" in them. In a crash, as the car slows down, these tensioners lock, and keep the belt from having any play in it.
When Inspector Winters slammed on the brakes, Dr. Haledjian would have been pitched through the windshield but for his seat belt. The reason for the inspector’s sudden stop was horribly evident. A red sports car had come racing around the hairpin turn on the mountain road ahead. Out of control, the car crashed through the guardrail. The impact didn’t stop the car, but it flung the driver straight up. He seemed to hang in the air a moment before plunging out of sight. Haledjian and the inspector scrambled down the two hundred-foot precipice. The driver’s body was a shattered mass of broken bones and blood. About one hundred feet beyond, the sports car lay on its side, a total wreck. “Strange,” muttered the inspector, pointing to the seat belt, obviously unused, which lay in the fresh blood that covered the driver’s bucket seat. “I doubt that even a seat belt could have saved his life,” said Haledjian. “I’d better telephone the state police,” said the Inspector. “It looks like one more traffic fatality for the year. Do you think he fell asleep at the wheel?” “No,” said Haledjian. “He was murdered.” Why murder?
A This is an old one...did you find the clue? If the body was thrown from the car, there would be no blood on the seat! 10PTS PLEASE
