FAQ - Questions - Reviews on Used Racing Seat
- Would you pay more for a used car with racing seats?
I got some leather racing seats installed on my car, because I always wanted leather seats. Would you pay less for the car if you saw it has these seats than regular cloth seats (because you'd assume I raced it) or more?
A Would pay less.I figure a car that has racing equipment installed has been beat so won't last long.Only way I would be interested is if I'm buying a race car as a race car but would expect to have to put money into it due to rough treatment.

- Can i use a 3,4,or 5 point harness with a racing seat in a daily driver without a roll bar?
I am restoring a 1979 Ford Mustang for my 16 year old daughter. I want to put racing seats in it and use a harness instead of a regular seat belt. However I don't have a roll cage in the car, so can i use the harness without the roll cage? HELP!!
A You can. But it's pointless. 1. I hope your "racing seats" cost a lot more than $300 a piece, otherwise you're getting craptastic wannabe seats. These will put your daughter at serious risk. Many of them look sporty, but are simply not designed for "racing" or any sort of accident. I've seen several websites displaying how seats will break in half, shatter, or otherwise be completely worthless. What happens is this: Without a rollcage or bar, the harness must be attached somewhere behind the seat. This will pull the seat downwards and back, in an accident. At minimum, you want a roll bar behind the seats, so the harnesses pull laterally, rather than diagonally. 2. Make sure you get a harness that has an anti-submarining device. Otherwise, in an accident she will suffer massive internal injury. 3. Keep in mind that more belts, mean more things for safety responders to have to deal with. And the difference in releasing one belt, versus a 5 point, might be difference in life or death. 4. Good call on the lack of a roll cage. LOTS of accidents result from having a rollcage, and the driver or passenger hitting their head on a bar. Even with padding.
